"It Takes A Village"

For the past 11 years, Liberty Lake has been at the forefront of youth development in our area, providing a safe haven of experiential education, growth and leadership opportunities for thousands of young people throughout Burlington, Camden, Mercer, Monmouth and Ocean Counties in New Jersey, as well as Philadelphia and Bucks Counties in Pennsylvania.

During this time, we have contributed our time and resources and forged partnerships with wonderful programs like Project Morry and S.C.O.P.E. We have hosted Swim-a-Thons, Community Health Days, Parenting Workshops, and numerous Picnics and Teambuilding Events for local Non-Profit Organizations and Schools. In the past few years, Liberty Lake found itself creating tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships- “Camperships” as we call them- for families hit hard by the recession, while contributing to over 40 local youth-serving organization’s fundraising efforts per year.

In 2010 we made a commitment as an organization to be more intentional about our contributions on a local level. We have formed a 501c3 non-profit corporation, and are organizing our resources and ideas to focus more on our local communities than ever before.

As Youth Development Professionals, we know that children are our most precious resource and deserve to be nurtured and encouraged to reach their fullest potential. ACA Outcomes Research has shown explicitly that the skills learned in a Summer Camp setting are a vital part of the learning experience. Besides improving social skills and coping, it is now proven that children who attend Camp return to school in September scoring higher on tests, and graduate at higher rates than their peers.

While schools teach “the 3 R’s” very well, their inherent set up lacks the ability to teach the 21st Century Competencies which young people need when entering college or the job-market as adults. We’re referring to “Applied Skills,” which are the vital life skills like: Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, Communication, Collaboration, Diversity and Creativity. These are the skills that Liberty Lake, and the Liberty Lake Foundation are focused on.
